If you are a serious foodie, you enjoy being exposed to new things and experiencing new cultures. One great way to do this is through a walking food tour in one of the many great cities throughout the United States. Not only will you experience exquisite cuisine, but you will also do so in small groups where you can easily engage in conversations with like-minded people. Here are a few walking food tour cities you may want to take advantage of.

New Orleans

You cannot talk about walking food tours without talking about the city of New Orleans. New Orleans is almost synonymous with food. Some great dishes you can look forward to sampling on a food tour throughout the city include:

  • Gumbo
  • Jambalaya
  • Beignets
  • Muffulettas
  • Po Boys
  • Crawfish
  • Andouille Sausage

Add these to all types of delicious seafood. New Orleans offers a mixture of Native American, French, Cajun, Spanish, German, and African foods, to name a few. Many of the dishes represent the cultural intermingling of the city.

Little Havana

Miami is another rich and vibrant city that offers a wide variety of culturally rich foods. While there are many different neighborhoods throughout the city of Miami, there are none quite like Little Havana. Your walking tour will expose you to everything from Cuban coffee to home-style Cuban cooking. You can also find the following:

  • Fritas
  • Carne Asada
  • Queso Frito
  • Flan
  • Fried Shrimp
  • Cubanos

If you love spice, this is the tour for you. Even the rice and beans are unlike those found in other cities.

Charleston

While eating your way through the South, you owe it to yourself to do a walking food tour through Charleston. Make sure you come hungry. There you can find local delicacies and decadent desserts. Some favorites include:

  • Shrimp and Grits
  • Frogmore Stew
  • She Crab Soup
  • Fried Green Tomatoes
  • Okra Soup
  • Crab Rice
  • Curry Chicken

And everyone knows that you have to wash your food down with a Planter's Punch. This drink is a delicious concoction that originated at the Planter's Inn Downtown. A true Planter's Punch consists of dark rum, grenadine, pineapple juice, and Angostura bitters.

Key West

You cannot get too much more southern than Key West, Florida. But here, too, you can find an incredible walking food tour worth the extra calories and weight gain. Be prepared to enjoy:

  • Conch Fritters
  • Conch Chowder
  • Spiny Lobster
  • Fresh Caught Fish
  • Key West Pink Shrimp

Be prepared to wash all this down with coconut water or one of the Key West Legal Rum Punches. But save room. No meal would be complete without a slice of Key Lime Pie.
